03/04/2007 - Walton Winter Guard Places SECOND at WGI
Congratulations AGAIN for an outstanding
performance on Saturday, March 3, at WGI in Atlanta. They took
second place, with Cobb County's Pope High School taking first
place. Please make plans to see one of Walton's upcoming
performances.
The following January 26,
2007, press release provides interesting details about this
years show:
Drama, elegance, and
satire are just some of the words that aptly characterize
the 2007 winter guard program from Walton High School in
Marietta, Georgia. Entitled “Let them Eat Cake” and set to
the majestic score of Beethoven’s Fantasy for Piano,
Orchestra, and Choir; the show explores the nuances of
decadence, indulgence, and excess. Influences for the show’s
set design of 12 wooden thrones come from 18th century
French palaces, while the overarching themes of playfulness
and frivolity are derived from the personality traits of
Marie Antoinette; whose infamous last words govern the
overall show concept. Costumed in lavish fabrics with a nod
toward an updated baroque silhouette, the 12 young women
tease and flirt their way through the program, ending the
show by manifesting their own gluttony.
The Walton High School
Winter Guard is directed by Cyndi Church. Other staff
members include Greg Fleenor, George Staib, Kate Johnson,
Laura Bauer, and Daniel Wiles. The color guard will be
competing extensively throughout the southeast and also be
traveling to three WGI Regionals; Pensacola, Atlanta, and
the Midwest Power Regional. The guard will also attend The
2007 Winter Guard International, Sport of the Arts
Championships, in Dayton, Ohio.

02/20/2007 - Walton Winter Guard Places FIRST at Pensacola
Regional
Congratulations to the Guard members, staff, managers,
and proud parents on Walton Winter Guard’s first place win at
the Pensacola WGI Regional competition last Saturday!! If
you can, please plan on attending the upcoming Atlanta WGI
Regional at North Springs HS on Saturday, March 3. We
really would like to have a large Walton fan base to help our
Guard perform at their top level. Judges seem to score
more favorably when the crowd loves you, too. And, what a
great show we have this year! Walton competes in prelims
at 10:20 a.m. Finals start at 5:50 p.m. and end at 7:34
p.m. Here’s a link to the WGI site with information about
this event, ticket prices, and directions:
