Band
Chaperones
Thanks to everyone who
has generously volunteered to chaperone our band students! A chaperone orientation and refresher
will be held July 15 in the Commons, 7:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. All chaperones,
rookie or veteran, are invited. We will cover the typical first aid needs of our
band students, what to do in case of emergency, and other chaperone duties
and responsibilities.
It's not too late to
volunteer as a chaperone, the entire marching season is ahead of us. Please
contact Greta Greer at greta.greer@gmail.com or 770.993.3140 if you are
interested.
Summer Reading
Did you know your student
has summer reading for band? Don’t
worry, you won’t have to buy another book.
See the letter below from Mr. Back for details. Please share this information with your
students and encourage them with their band “summer
reading.”
Hello
Everyone-
I hope you are enjoying the summer
with your family and friends.
I want to remind you to spend some
significant time with your show music during the summer break. Just like the summer reading program in
your other classes, practicing the show music during the summer will not only
keep you playing, but will help us to have a great start to the school
year. As you know, we normally have
8-4 week before camp to work on our music.
Since we don’t have that pre-camp week this year, we really need each of
you to come to camp with your music well rehearsed. We will have a staff of professionals to
work with you at camp but it would be great if they didn’t have to teach notes
and rhythms. Remember, there are
some rehearsal mp3s on the band web site for your use. I might also suggest getting together
with others in your section for practice sessions. Working with someone else is sometimes
more fun and productive.
Since all of our show music was
finished before school was out, we set a goal of being able to play through our
entire show by the end of camp.
That’s a pretty lofty goal, but I believe we can make it happen if
everyone does his or her part.
Our design team has been working
very hard since early winter to make sure you have a great show this year. Not only is our music finished, but also
a good portion of our drill is already written. The percussion section and guard have
been working all summer and have learned a lot of their show. I’m looking forward to what we can all
accomplish together by the end of our two weeks of camp at LaGrange and
Walton.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and
don’t forget your band “summer reading!”
