FAQs for Current Marching Band Families
How do I make sure I'm keeping up with information regarding marching band?
Your student will be given detailed guidance from the band directors and section leaders regarding upcoming events, so it's a great idea to ask your student. However, your next best resources are the weekly eblast, the band calendar, and the parents' WBPA Facebook page. Other resources include the Walton Band FB page and Instagram page, as well as your Parent Section Ambassador.
You can also be added to Walton Band Remind texts for last-minute information and updates by texting the following to the number 81010: @whsbndprnt
Is there an app for that?
Yes, there is! The Membership Toolkit app will be fully-functional this year, enabling you to receive notifications of new messages, complete common tasks, and access to the Walton Band family directory. Search for membership toolkit in the App Store or Google Play.
How do I subscribe to the eblast?
You are automatically subscribed to the eblast once you create a Toolkit account. Weekly eblasts, usually on Sunday evenings, are sent to parents and students. If you are not receiving the eblast, please contact presidents@waltonband.org.
How do I subscribe to the band calendar?
Log into waltonband.org, go to Calendar, scroll to the bottom of the page, and select the Subscribe button beside Walton HS Band Calendars. Subscribing to the band calendar is super-helpful because any updates made to the band calendar will automatically show up on your calendar app if you have the band calendar events turned on. Need help subscribing to the calendar? Contact presidents@waltonband.org.
I am not receiving emails. Where do I find emails previously sent?
Log into waltonband.org, go to My Account, then Messages to see emails previously sent to you. If you are not receiving emails, go to My Account, Communication Settings to make sure you’re set up to receive email notifications. If you still aren’t receiving emails, please contact vpinfo@waltonband.org.
I can't remember if I completed a form. Where do I look?
Log into waltonband.org, go to My Account, then Forms. If the form does not show up under Submitted Forms, then click on the Forms button on the main tabs (Home, About Us, etc.) to see available forms.
I can't find details that were on a form I completed. Where do I look?
Some details can be found on the band site, but all of the details mentioned on the form will be included in the emailed confirmation receipt you receive once you complete the form. Log into waltonband.org, go to My Account, then Forms, and then click on the form. You can then click the confirmation receipt button to see all the details.
Where is contact information for the Board?
Go to the logged-in Home page for waltonband.org under the NEED HELP? section and select the WBPA Board Contacts button.
What if I need to check band policies and procedures?
The band handbook provides more information regarding attendance, scholarships, band fees, account credits, uniform expectations, etc.
What is my fair share?
We all benefit from the funds raised through band fundraising activities. To do your fair share to support the band program, please plan to participate in the fundraisers as much as your family is able. Families who want to do their fair share but do not want to participate in fundraising activities can pay an opt-out amount for each fundraiser or can pay a one-time comprehensive opt out fee HERE.
What is RaiseRight/SCRIP?
RaiseRight (formerly SCRIP) is a passive fundraiser where you purchase gift cards and a percentage of the gift card value is deposited into your student’s band account as credits to be used on band fees, trip fees, and a few other items (see below). Check out our RaiseRight FAQ here, go to raiseright.com for more info, or contact Fran Colley at treasurer@waltonband.org. To sign up for RaiseRight, you'll need to contact Fran.
How do I earn student credits?
Student credits are earned by participating in fundraisers. For each fundraiser, a portion of funds raised goes into your student’s account. The portion depends on the fundraiser.
What fundraisers allow me to earn student credits?
The RaiseRight fundraising program and Taste of East Cobb sponsorship sales allow families to earn student credits.
How do I find my student account credits?
Log into waltonband.org, go to My Account > Account Credit. If you have questions about account credits, please contact our Treasurers Carrie Carbone and Fran Colley at treasurer@waltonband.org.
What can student credits be applied towards?
Per the band handbook, student account credits can be used to pay for band fees, trip costs, and the band Spring concert and End of Year banquet. Some uniform expenses also qualify. Also, student account credits may not be used to purchase concert or Banquet tickets for anyone outside of the student’s immediate family.
What happens to students' credits if they are not used before graduation?
When a student leaves the band program, transfers, or graduates from Walton High School, all remaining credits in the student’s account are transferred to the band’s general fund. The only exception to this rule is when there is another participating family member from the same household, in which case the remaining balance would roll into that student’s account. See the band handbook for more information.
I have a question - how do I know who I should contact?
If your question relates to attendance, an email should be sent to attendance@waltonband.org. Make sure if the student is sending this email that a parent/guardian is also copied.
If your question relates to academics, an email should be sent to our Band Directors at john.palmer@waltonband.org and christopher.johns@waltonband.org.
For general marching band questions, you can contact your Band Representatives or Band Presidents. You're also welcome to reach out to any board member or section ambassador. Click here for a list of board members. Section ambassadors will be communicated in the Fall.
My student can't make practice - who should I let know?
Absences should be communicated to the band directors, preferably before the absence, at attendance@waltonband.org.
