Walton Varsity Winter Guard FAQ

Winter Guard season is starting up, and we've added a Junior Varsity Guard to our Winter Guard program! The Varsity Guard will be for returning members with advanced skills, while the Junior Varsity Guard will be for returning members as well as beginning members.

What is the difference between Winter Guard and Color Guard?

While Color Guard performs and competes as part of the marching band, Winter Guard performs competitively against other high school Winter Guard teams. Color Guard activities are primarily outdoors, while Winter Guard competitions and practices are indoors, typically in gymnasiums.

Winter Guard performances include a colorful floor that covers the gym floor (see above) as well as creative props. The same equipment is used in both activities, including flags, rifles, sabres, and more. Winter Guard provides a wonderful opportunity for guard members to shine!

When and where does the Winter Guard practice?

Most Varsity Winter Guard practices will be in the Dodgen Gym on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, as well as on Saturdays during the day and evening.

JV Winter Guard will typically practice on Tuesdays in the Dodgen Gym and on Fridays before competitions.

How do I sign up?

Signups will open after audition results are posted.

What are the practice dates for 2027?

Practice dates will be posted later this year as we approach the Winter Guard season.

What are the competition dates for 2027?

We have an exciting season planned! Competition dates will be posted later this year.

Can parents participate in Winter Guard?

Yes! We need plenty of help from parents to make this season a success. Sign-ups will be posted when available.
